Due to the need to dispose of mostly iron waste and provide raw material to newly- founded ironworks, “Otpad- municipal company for waste collection” was established in 1948. It had 30 employees, one truck and warehouse area of 2,000 m2.
In 1953 new collection stations opened in Mali Lošinj, Delnice, Senj, Opatija and Pula. Diversifying the activities, in 1965 the company changed its name into “Metalpromet- company for transport, sorting and processing of industrial waste”. At that time it was customary to merge companies with the same activities. Therefore “Metalpromet” merged with company “Surovina” from Maribor.
Merging “Metalpromet” and “Surovina”, “METIS” was born. Constant growth, investment in production and intellectual capital, clear vision and good development strategy have resulted in 60-year-long tradition.
Today, Metis is a shareholding company and one of the most important Croatian companies dealing with waste management.
